ASQoD: Problem-solving

It’s the second day of Houston auditions, and we’re on our way tonight to the dress rehearsal of Julius Caesar at HGO’s Resilience Theater @ George R. Brown Convention Center (featuring 5 WTO alumni!)

Today’s #ASQoD*…

“For every complex problem there is an easy answer,
and it is wrong.”
H.L. Mencken

Don’t underestimate the value of creativity in solving your problems, and don’t accept easy answers at face value. Reframe. Stay loose. Rethink.  Rehearsing isn’t mindless drudgery. Be present in your practice so that you can recognize when a new approach will expand your options.

And if (well, when…) things go wrong in the audition room or on the stage, give yourself a little space, then take it apart. And don’t accept the first or most likely reason. Be as creative in your problem-solving as you are in your art.

Oh, and before I go, the related quote that was the inspiration for today’s image:

“I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer,
to treat everything as if it were a nail.”
(Abraham Maslow)

The *Audition Season Quote of the Day is a month-long series brought to you by Wolf Trap Opera.
