Homecoming: Stephen Lord

Even though the star singers are getting most of the attention in this lead-up to our August 24 alumni extravaganza, it’s the man on the podium who will make it all happen. Stephen Lord has been so integral to the history and success of the WTOC, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have him back to lead this concert.

Stephen was on WTOC music staff in the late 70’s, and he returned 8 times in the 90’s and 00’s to lead productions at The Barns and the Filene Center. I wish I had a photo from the way-back machine to include on this post, but the best I can do is this recent one (above, left) from our 2008 Candide with the NSO. (The Maestro enters the story and kisses the hand of the lovely Cunegonde, Anne-Carolyn Bird.)

Endless thanks go to this generous musician who is coming back to tackle everything from Wagner to Handel at the Trap. Welcome back, Mo. Lord.

Peter Russell

The very best combination of sterling musicianship and intelligence, he is also an unparalleled teacher who has amassed an encyclopedic knowledge. If Mo. Lord senses that someone is not only gifted, but eager to learn, and blessed with a capacity for hard work, he will go to any lengths to work with and assist that singer to maximize the individual’s potential, and there are countless successful singers who have benefited from his guidance.
