Sending this out to you after a strong day of auditions back home in Virginia. Loving being at The Barns – it obviously has the comforts of home, but it’s also an acoustical environment that is both honest and enjoyable.
Here’s your day 10 of #ASQoD*. If the idea of auditioning strikes fear in your heart, this one’s for you:
“Courage is not the absence of fear,
but rather the judgment that something else
is more important than fear.”
Ambrose Redmoon
Try explaining this audition thing to someone who’s not in the performing arts.
Tell them that you basically do scores of job interviews for every single job, and that the resulting job only lasts for a few months.
Tell them that in any given month, you may have conflicting career and skill-building information coming at you from dozens of different sources.
Tell them that once you get good enough to get the jobs, every day of your work life is full of bystanders (critics, rabid fans, toxic colleagues) who tear you apart in public forums.
And then reassure them that you’re not crazy. And you’re often afraid. But the chance to spend even a part of your life bringing some beauty into the world is more important than the fear.
The Audition Season Quote of the Day is a month-long series brought to you by Wolf Trap Opera.
