Day 1 in Cincinnati, at CCM’s beautiful Werner Recital Hall. Arias are coming in pairs today: We started the day with back-to-back 10am performances of Sarastro’s “O Isis und Osiris” (The Magic Flute) and we heard double renditions of less-standard arias Ilia’s “Padre, germani, Addio” (Idomeneo) and Marenka’s “Och, jaky zal!” (The Bartered Bride).
On to our #ASQoD* (It isn’t really a quote. So sue me…)
Triage. Originally a medical term. But it can be an amazingly useful way of life.
It comes from the French verb trier, meaning to separate, sift or select. Take the overwhelming number of things coming at you during this busy season, and sift them:
- Things that will be fine (or even improve) no matter what you do.
- Things that will go to hell in a handbasket no matter what you do.
- And things that have the potential to be changed for the better if you address them.
It’s obvious where the sweet spot is, yes…? Untangle that stuff and place your focus where it can really do you some good.
The Audition Season Quote of the Day is a month-long series brought to you by Wolf Trap Opera.
