Music staff in their natural environment
Each summer we are visited by some of the best collaborative pianists in the industry; they join us from across the country bringing their musicianship, language specialties, and love and knowledge of the operatic repertoire, which infuse each production with the musical nuance you’ve come to expect at Wolf Trap. They work in the rehearsal room not just playing the piano, but in close collaboration with the conductor to correct notes & rhythms and listening for balance and diction. They’ll also work one-on-one with each singer in coachings to further refine and reinforce what’s being done in staging rehearsals. They may prepare a chorus or conduct for cover rehearsals, they’ll play for auditions and outreach events, and they’ll often perform as part of the orchestra on piano, harpsichord, harmonium, or celeste. Our music staff are chameleons, they can do it all!
