Day 29: Always Learning

4 recent chances for professional growth: clockwise from bottom right:

This Monday morning featured another seminar in our professional development series. Sean Michael Gross of 21C Media Group spoke to our young artists on the topic of “The 21st Century Singer: What You Need to Know about PR and Digital Media.” For now more than ever, professional musicians must take charge of creating and curating their own digital personas.

Last Friday, Figaro director David Paul took our singers through the fascinating process of text analysis. If you missed this blog interview with David, take a minute and listen to him describe this process in his own words.

At the end of May, Deb Birnbaum shared her groundbreaking breath support techniques with our singers, in group and individual sessions.

And earlier last week, Jessica Vanderhoof of Artists on Fire presented “The Music in the Mirror” – a chance for our singers to think about their professional vs. personal personas and strengthen their professional materials.

There’s more to come. Tomorrow, conductor Kathleen Kelly conducts a seminar on singing recitative, and on Wednesday, Jim Doyle leads a 2-day workshop on theatrical improvisation. Over the next 6 weeks, more colleagues will offer their expertise on financial planning for freelancers, vocal health, auditioning and more. I learn so much every summer, and I wish I would’ve had the head start our singers are getting!
