Last night’s invited dress rehearsal was the 188th birthday of this crazy and beautiful opera (premiered on June 19, 1825 in Paris.) The occasion was marked by comedy, intrigue, beautiful sets and costumes, hundreds of thousands of 16th notes, and birthday cake. Today is the day before opening night – a blessed and much-needed company day off during which the cast is resting up for their June 21 performance. (After which my colleague Lee Anne and I will celebrate our own birthdays. We turn 96 on opening night!)
I hope you can join us for one of this weekend’s performances. Till then, here’s a taste.
Thanks, Kim, for your continued outstanding WTB direction and frequent blogs!
Enjoyed your pre opera discussion and studio artists vocal preview last evening.
The 8 PM opera performance was more resembling a “Grand Opera” with superb voices, music and staging ! We did enjoy the WTB 1996 J/R but was “floored” by this 1920’s era production !
Now we’re considering the July 14, Juke Box Aria event!
Regards, Ron Baker, WT Associate since 1992.
