ROLE(S): Marquis de la Force (Dialogues of the Carmelites)
Blake Denson, described as a “roaring baritone”(Klassik Begeistert), is praised for his “captivating dramatic interpretations” with “a striking upper register” and “a sound that boomed to the back of the house” (Opera Wire). Recently, Mr. Denson was named a recipient of a South Bank Sky Award with the English National Opera and nominated for an Olivier Award. He is a winner of The Richard Tucker–Sarah Tucker Grant Award, The George and Nora London Foundation, The International Concurs Tenor Viñas Competition, The Dallas Opera National Vocal Competition, and a Grand Finalist winner of the 2020 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Recent credits include: Rigoletto (Opera de national Paris); Rigoletto, Madama Butterfly, and Fire Shut Up In My Bones (The Met); La Fanciulla del West (Bayerische Staatsoper); Simon Boccanegra, Carmen, Tosca, and Rigoletto (Staatsoper Hamburg); Hansel and Gretel, Dialogues of the Carmelites, Carmen, Falstaff, and the world premiere of The Snowy Day (Houston Grand Opera); Das Rheingold (English National Opera); Tosca and Orfeo (Sante Fe Opera); La bohème (Washington National Opera); Porgy and Bess (Des Moines Opera); a concert with Lissette Oropesa at New Orleans Opera Theatre; performing alongside Simone Estes in his final performance on stage; and being selected to honor George London in recital. Mr. Denson is a Wolf Trap Opera alum (Studio ’19, ’20; Filene ’24).
