The Company’s first decade was exhilarating – big guest stars and lots of time on the outdoor stage at the Filene Center. There were high-powered guest conductors and directors generating adrenaline to spare, expensive productions and a world premiere.
The 80’s seem to have started off in a more subdued fashion. Adelaide Bishop and Richard Woitach took the reins, and the company slowly streamlined and found its niche. Soon the Company would move into The Barns – an indoor chamber theatre that would allow the focus to truly shift to the young artists themselves.
But before summer 1982 rolled around, there was an even bigger challenge to face. Stay tuned.

Hello Wolf Trap!
Thank you for publishing this archival page. Looking back, I didn’t know how lucky I was while working at The Barns that summer and only a half hour ride from home! I had a great time being part of that first apprentice group. We also got to watch the legendary bass,Italo Tajo, as he worked with the young artists. Thanks for the picture of “The Tutor’s Dilema” as well!( I’m the one holding onto John Trout’s coat tails, who in turn has his hands full with Jennifer Larmore.
