Today, March 3, I finally get to tell you all about the operatic goodness that will be WTO’s 2016 Season!
I’ve been wanting to bring back Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia ever since I started producing at The Barns, and this is the year. A perfect cast of 8 returning artists in a thought-provoking, compelling and beautiful new production. Complete with a series of events that will give this opera the kind of context it craves: check out The Lucretia Project.
Also on my wish list for the last 5 years has been a rollicking re-discovered 18th century gem that’s been making the rounds recently in Europe. Gassmann’s L’Opera Seria is the love child of Noises Off and Mozart’s Impresario. Complete with coloratura fireworks. New production, of course.
Our big one-night-only extravaganza with the National Symphony Orchestra comes in the form of a new production of La bohème. Admit it, you still cry when she dies.
And of course, there’s more. Check out all of the performances at wolftrap.org/opera and read about this year’s brilliant Filene Young Artists, Fellows and Studio Artists.
OK, I’m back to making the donuts. More soon!
I’m very excited about the opportunity to attend The Rape of Lucretia and L’Opera Seria. I guess one more performance of La Boheme won’t hurt; I plan to be there. You make summers more fun.
Many thanks for the great work you and the young performers and Wolftrap staff do for us all.
