On this Memorial Day, our hearts are bound with those of all our friends and families whose loved ones have died in service of this beautiful country.
I am reminded today of the Opera Philadelphia production of Silent Night that Lee Anne and I saw a few years ago. The opera’s characters aren’t American soldiers, but its themes are universal – sacrifice, duty, family, and the ability of the human spirit to transcend war. I don’t know of any upcoming productions (it just closed at L’Opéra de Montreal yesterday), but if it surfaces in your area in the future, don’t miss it. Take a listen.
PBS broadcast the Minnesota Opera production a few years ago. Maybe they will ‘re-air the video in the future.
