The first week of rehearsals for Listen, Wilhelmina! is in the books. Ranger Nat and wombats Winston, Wallis and Wilhelmina will perform this brand new opera for 3,000 preschoolers in mid-May. (And you can catch a show – with or without a preschooler in tow – in July!)
I mentioned to librettist Kathleen Kelly and composer David Hanlon that their “Listen!” message is just as important to grownups as it is to little ones…. And somehow, I think they knew that. :)
“So listen, gentle audience!
We’re very glad you came.
We can play music without you,
But it’s never quite the same.
We’re musicians of great expertise,
We play opera and long symphonies.
But it all blows away on the breeze
Unless you are with us to listen!”
