Ghosts Beyond The Barns

There was only one thing wrong with last summer’s production of The Ghosts of Versailles.

Only 1,300 people got to see it.

We were blessedly sold out in our jewel box theatre (The Barns at Wolf Trap), and there was a beautifully enthusiastic response from the local fan base and from colleagues who traveled to Virginia (as well as from the composer/librettist team of John Corigliano and William M. Hoffman!)  But we knew that we wanted to do whatever possible to share the extraordinary work of our cast and team with a wider audience. And sometimes, dreams do come true.

Starting today, Ghosts will be available for a time-limited web stream! Treat yourself to a viewing of this wonderful opera – at turns mystical, witty, lyrical, tragic, comic, and romantic. (N.B.: The first scene of the full opera effectively captures the spooky and spiky world of the Ghosts of the title, and it’s pretty dark and purposefully chaotic; but the whole opera doesn’t stay in that world:))

Here’s a little preview to whet your appetite…

This is the beginning of what we hope will be a long-term effort to showcase the work of our fabulous artists to a larger audience. (Craving a press release?) We go to great lengths to identify the best talent in opera’s up-and-coming generation and to produce shows that are just right for them and for our venues. Of course, nothing beats coming to Wolf Trap to hear a live performance, full of adrenaline and immediacy. But if your summer travels can’t take you to northern Virginia, it seems that we’ve got just the thing for you.
